New York City Highlights Day 2

We had agreed we wouldn't get up at the crack of dawn on this mini vacation. So on Day 2 we headed to Ellen's Stardust Diner just around the corner from the hotel on Broadway at 51st St.
There is a singling diner in Branson Missouri also.
Here is a clip from
YouTube with one of the servers we had.
The food is good but the service can be slow as they are required to wait on tables and do their performances as well.

Then it's time to pick up our New York passes at Planet Hollywood that I bought online.
We then board our hop on hop off bus at 43rd St. which is included in the pass. And boy, is it hot!!

Glimpse of the Empire State Building

 Lower Manhattan

Bowling Green. This tiny, triangular piece of land is Manhattan’s oldest park.

The commanding statue in the park is Charging Bull, a shrine to the god of strong stock markets.

I think he needs to work a little harder right now.

The Sphere is a large sculpture in the area between the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan. Recovered from the rubble of the Twin Towers after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the artwork faced an uncertain fate, and it was dismantled. Although it remained structurally intact, it had been visibly damaged by debris from the collapsing skyscrapers.
Six months after the attacks, it was relocated to Battery Park without any repairs — and formally rededicated with an eternal flame as a memorial to the victims of 9/11. It has become a major tourist attraction.

There is still a strong police presence around Ground Zero.
It was very hot and this pub beckoned it. The Blarney Stone, which opened while the twin towers were being built and later fed the rescuers at Ground Zero, never fully recovered from the attacks of 9/11. A reality show stepped in and totally renovated the pub in 2010.

A wall in the pub.

Back outside at Ground Zero with more police.
The Freedom Tower being built on the grounds of the WTC. Interesting that it will be 1,776 feet tall....

Trinity Church, a Gothic Revival Episcopal church, which owns much of the land on which its towering, hyper-wealthy neighbors sit. When it was finished in 1846, the Gothic spire of Trinity Church was the tallest structure in all of New York. The church’s sanctuary and cemetery (the site of Alexander Hamilton’s grave) are peaceful oases.

Next stop - Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Square.

Seeing Central Park laid out at my feet was a breathtaking sight.

Photo taken of St. Patrick's as we go up the elevator in Rockefeller Square

We stepped outside and there was a wedding party just getting into their cars.

We go back to the hotel and relax before heading out to the theatre to see Mary Poppins!!!

Back out on Times Square at 11pm

  1. Loved these photos of New York. I am flying there later this morning on my first visit to The Big Apple.
